Clean River Partners releases findings from its survey of consumer preferences for Kernza®
With the University of Minnesota's Applied Economics Department and the University of Minnesota Extension's Southeast Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships, we recently completed a study assessing consumer preferences for Kernza food products. Kernza® is gaining in popularity. However, it is entering a competitive market. Our study found that consumers are willing to pay up to $2.10 more for a 14-ounce package of Kernza pancake and waffle mix compared to a whole grain counterpart. Taste, packaging, convenience, and emphasis on Kernza’s environmental benefits all make a difference! The first commercially available perennial grain, Kernza®, protects drinking water from nitrate contamination and builds soil health because it requires fewer fertilizers, irrigation, and tilling than annual crops.
